"My parents have always treated me like a boy."...???
Submitted by sheenasingha on 7 August, 2008 - 13:04.“My parents have always treated me like a boy. Never have they made me feel that I am a girl.” So read a comment by a college girl in the newspaper.
I didn’t understand whether it was a comment or a compliment. Quite a weird statement to make.
Treating the girl child like a boy is imprinting the concept of gender divide in the child’s mind.

Cheer down!
Submitted by sheenasingha on 2 August, 2008 - 15:39.A very religious father was bringing up his son as perfectly as possible. One day when they were going to church he gave the boy two coins: one, a one rupee coin; another, a one paise coin. He also gave him the choice that whatsoever he thinks is right he can put in the donation plate in the church. He could choose the rupee or the paise.

Opening your senses to beauty
Submitted by sheenasingha on 24 July, 2008 - 20:54.Walking down the sunny road, eyes barely open in the blazing sun, a patch of shade came as the came as the desert. Thankful to the Lord and to those who planted it there, I looked up to see my benefactor.
A small brown trunk branching out into beautiful green leaves, the size of fingernails, filtering, yet so dense that the sunlight could not filter through them.

'You' are responsible for your own happiness
Submitted by sheenasingha on 22 July, 2008 - 14:26.Many times, or shall I say, all times in life, we blame situations, other people, the administration…and who not for our misfortunes.
My kids don’t study!
He is too ignorant to care about the details of the contract!
I can’t do well in this business but don’t have funds for anything else!
My wife is too nagging!
My husband comes home so late…!

Life's small pleasures...
Submitted by sheenasingha on 5 July, 2008 - 21:22.On my way to the airport this morning, a flight flew right above the car.
“Uh! Don’t be a kid now and follow it’s movement through the sky,” I reminded myself. Or it could be arrogance. “Oh! So what’s new about it?”
Just then, I sighted a bunch of labourers perched over the airport fencing gleefully watching the taking off and landing of the planes.

I wonder why it seems so empty
Submitted by sheenasingha on 4 July, 2008 - 14:53.Surprising!
But what’s so surprising about it? Haven’t you grown up watching them? Haven’t you followed them through their flight in the clear blue sky? Haven’t you made them jump with the stamp of your feet as they sat nibbling the grains?
Why does its sight seem so strange today?

Standing in the queue, a gentleman’s voice caught my attention.
“Oh! I am so glad I brought it along.”
“Oh! I am so glad I could be of use to someone.”
“Yes, yes. I have it.”
The crowd was gradually drifting to him.

Mistaking Arrogance for Confidence
Submitted by sheenasingha on 14 June, 2008 - 16:17.Arrogance is to judge one’s self-worth by comparison with others.
To think that one is superior to those inferior to oneself and that one is equal to one’s equals is also arrogance.
To judge our self-worth by comparing ourselves with others is arrogance too.
We may be inclined to mistake our arrogance for confidence and others’ confidence for arrogance.

HAPPY PARENTING!
Submitted by sheenasingha on 13 June, 2008 - 14:46.We do everything for our children : good schools, great guidance system, encourage, courses, chances to explore life, love.
Choosing a good school plays the greatest role.
But after we’ve exerted our lives towards their welfare, we still miss out on one very important thing.
School is a second home they say. Ever thought about the role of the first?

The beauty of marriage
Submitted by sheenasingha on 9 June, 2008 - 15:25.On marriage:
There are so many people on this earth. Does any one life really matter? But in a marriage, you are saying,
“I am the sole observer of your life.
Your every joy, your every moment of sadness, I’ll observe.
I will watch your little successes.
I’ll watch the bigger ones.
I’ll watch how you become a kid all over again with the children.

It's all here...
Submitted by sheenasingha on 8 June, 2008 - 12:36.Looking at the satellite image of earth I always think “So beautiful. We live here? It looks like this?”
But as soon as I move out, ugliness of the planet starts creeping in. The air is full of smoke and negative vibes. Trees are being cut. Pollution in all forms… the list is endless.

Touch
Submitted by sheenasingha on 7 June, 2008 - 12:28.Touch as if the centre of your being has shifted to the point of contact. Oh! I just experienced this.
I had been off to my other’s place for 2 days. My 3 year old niece is the apple of our eye. I had heard that children till the age of 4 are the purest and the most alive of beings. To see it in real, she set an example.
