The Olympic torch reaches the top of the world

The Olympic torch has reached the peak of Mt. Everest for the first time ever. Apparently torch carriers had to wear oxygen masks too make the assent too the top of Everest. The torch makes a tour around the world every Olympic year ending at the opening ceremony.

The torch run has been in the news lately as protesters continue too try too draw attention to the Chinese crackdown on an Tibetan uprising against Chinese rule. The Chinese have ruled over Tibet since invading Tibet in the 1940’s.

There are people calling on President Bush too boycott the opening ceremony as a political statement of disapproval over the handling of the Tibetan protests by the Chinese government.
