The importance of vitamins to our bodies
Vitamins are organic compounds which are needed by our bodies in small amounts. If an individual's diet lacks a certain vitamin, a disorder known as a deficiency disease results.
We get two catagories of vitamins. Water-soluble vitamins such as vitamins B complex and C, and fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamins A,D,E and K.
Excess water-soluble vitamins are excreted in our urine. They are not stored in our bodies. Excess fat-soluble vitamins are stored in the fatty tissues of the human body. They can be stored in our bodies. It is important to remember that.
Human beings need at least 13 different vitamins. Vitamins are important to ensure growth, support and maintain our metabolic processes, and tyo prevent deficiency diseases.
The most common source of obtaining vitamins is from the food that we eat, mainly fruits and vegetables. This is why it is very important to ensure that you eat at least five different fruits everyday, to ensure that you meet your daily vitamin intake quota.
