What you can do to reduce poverty

Just the other day, I was walking along the street when I noticed an old lady who was asking for money. Ok, with poverty as rife as it is in every country in the world, it was not something I was suprised to see.

The thing which did catch my attention however was the fact that here was an old lady, asking the public for money, and yet many people just ignored her and moved on.

The question we should ask is, why didn't they stop to help her out? The excuse that they did not have any money is not a valid one as we were outside a shopping centre.

The thing is, if we want poverty to stop, we have to stop it ourselves. There are so many people who literally have more money than they know what to do with. Yet they go and waste it on things which they do not need or things they can do fine without.

If you want poverty to stop, you have to do something about it yourself. Next time you see a beggar, remember this article. I can't force you to give anything, but I can encourage that you do.

How to do it?

Many of us, if not Everybody, want to end poverty. But there is no straight and simple recipe. Giving alms to a few beggers cannot end poverty. Abstaining from buying things from a mall too cannot end poverty, as the goods sold there are produced by poor people who can at least have a square meal a day or light up their homes with a single bulb. The real problem may be the long line of middlemen who add "price" to the product without adding value to it and leaves the little to the creator of the product who has to be satisfied with one square meal and a single bulb or a kerosene lamp.

A single person can't make a change. But together we can do.

Dear Exodia,

Not only by giving a ruppee or two ruppee would help to get rid of the poverty. A single person can't make a change. But together we can do. Goverment's hand is also very important to do this.
