Do we respect our national game ?
We hardly give any thought to these type of issues but just see what happens with cricket and hockey.I got this sent to me by a friend.May be you will enjoy this and ponder over it too just as I did.
It's really a time to proud about our cricket team. Here are some of the awards announced to the team.
Rs 2 crores as a tournament prize. Rs 8 crores from BCCI for winning the final.Rs 4 crores from BCCI for reaching the final.Rs 1 crore for Yuvraj singh from BCCI.Cash awards upto Rs 21 lakhs from all the governments of state to which the players are belonging. Rs 3 lakhs to Uthappa from Kerala government just for the reason that his mother is from Kerala.Flats worth of Rs 25 lakhs from Sahara.A new award, 'Jharkhand Ratna' honour is being introduced for the first time and will be presented to Dhoni for making the state.proud, on the 7th foundation day celebration of the state on November 15 at Ranchi.Special News Bulletin, Editions and Highlights in almost all the TV news channels through out the night.

We also very much happy about all these and congratulate each and every one who is the reason for this famous victory.
But........ What is the status of our National Game, Hockey?
We won the Asia cup couple of weeks before.
Specific Features of this victory
We did not lose a single match.
We defeated the strongest team South Korea twice in the tournament - League and Final.We defeated South Korea In the final by 7-2 which is one of the huge margins in finals. We scored totally 56 goals and given away just 5 goals in the 7 matches that we played.We scored 20 goals in a single match against Sri Lanka and not even given away a single goal. This equaled the highest margin of victory in Asia cup record.
We remained the lone team to maintain our slate clean (Rare all-win record at pool stage) among 11 teams and topped the tough six-team Pool B.

For the news channels and papers, it's just news.IHF had announced an incentive for the team where they would receive Rs 1000 for every goal scored and lose Rs 2000 for every goal
conceded.
The state governments not even sent a congratulation note.
Is it the way of respecting our national game?

I was about to write article on this topic but you did it first. That's good.
There has been injustice with our hockey players for a long time. Now the time has come when all of us should seriously support other sports besides cricket.

Well thats the state of affair! What needed here is that more n more students ad people be taught about the game. Cricket is watched by everybody but very small population watches hockey.
If we learn the game, more n more people will be interested in hockey.
Lets keep the spirit of hockey alive!

This is very pitiful for our hockey players and shameful for the government and other higher authorities involved to bring the national game to such a situation.
