CHRISTMAS TALES-II

Christmas is celebrated on the 25th of December everywhere. It is believed that about 2000 years ago’ it was on a December 25th that Jesus Christ was born. However in the bible it is only said that Jesus was born during the reign of emperor Augustus in Rome. The date or year is not specified. At first, January 6th was considered Christ’s birth date, since it is believed that the three wise men came to visit baby Jesus on that date. It was in the 4th century A.D. that December 25th began to be celebrated as Christmas. The Roman Christians were behind this tradition.

Even before Christianity was preached, in ancient Rome December was a month of festivities to please the SATURN GOD. The Saturn God was worshipped on this day. After that it was time for worshipping the SUN GOD and celebrating His birthday. December 26th as we all know is the winter solstice. In Europe and in Scandinavia there was a festival called ‘EULE’ for worshipping the GOD THOR. In Iran also December 25th was festival time. The people worshipped a God known as ‘THE SUN OF JUSTICE’. Because of all these Christmas came to be celebrated on the 25th of December.

Christmas was initially known as ‘Christ Mass’. We all know what Mass is. Christ Mass gradually became Christmas. When all became believers of Christ in Rome they started celebrating Christmas on the same day as the Sun God’s Birthday. Just like the Sun God grants light to all, Jesus Christ spread the light of goodness all over the earth.
