The First Fools

If you go back to about 400 years ago you will find that New Year was celebrated on April 1st and not on January 1st as we celebrate it now. King Charles the 10th changed the date from April 1st to January 1st as the new date for celebrating the New Year. Though people were a little dissatisfied in the beginning they soon found the change suitable and good. Nevertheless a few old persons protested the change and continued to celebrate New Year on the 1st of April.
Some important people approached these old dissatisfied people and told them that they wanted to support their stand after all. They invited them to a big feast to celebrate the occasion. When the old people dressed up in their best costly dresses went to the place of feast, they found the door locked and there was no one to welcome them.
They then realized that they had been fooled. Tradition says that they were the first April fools.
